Perplex City: The search for the Receda Cube...

Published by Mind Candy, Perplex City began life as Project Syzygy when an advertisement in The Guardian (UK) newspaper in March '04 disguised as an encryption problem solved to reveal the following text:
"Ever imagined sitting behind the curtain helping craft a world-changing, globe-spanning immersive treasure hunt? We're creating a completely new type of game you play everywhere. Clues surround you in newspapers, magazines, films, books, video games via text and across a spanning maze of websites. Whom can you trust? Where does fantasy end and reality begin? You've passed the first test stage, now follow the white rabbit."

The story created by these puzzle masters revolves around the Perplex City Academy, where the valuable Receda Cube has been stolen and hidden somewhere on Earth. The people of Perplex City are calling on residents of Earth to help them find the cube through a series of puzzles which range in difficulty and type, featuring mazes, pop culture trivia, riddles, cryptography, illusions and crosswords. The puzzles can be found inside 6-card packs of Perplex City and by collecting and solving the puzzles, players will move closer to finding out more clues about the Receda Cube disappearance, and closer to claiming the $200,000 USD prize reward for finding the cube.

The Perplex City game is comprised of 256 puzzle cards. Each puzzle features information on Perplex City - the people and history, how they think, website addresses and phone numbers, and further information about the theft of the cube. On the back of 192 cards is a 3D map spanning all of Perplex City, which will prove useful to players as they investigate the theft.
